N + G – WEDDING IN APULIA
Last year, I had the privilege of capturing the wedding in Apulia of Naomi and Graeme, a couple originally from Manchester, England. Their story inspired me to share some reflections.
I believe a wedding is one of the most intense and personal moments in our lives — the classic day to remember. Yet, when it comes to visually telling the story of that day, we too often encounter repetitive images: forced poses, staged looks, and perfect but soulless settings.
Why does this happen? Because many rely on a predetermined aesthetic, the idea of love that Instagram has, without pausing to consider that what truly matters is not how the day looks, but how it was truly lived.
Choosing a photographer means entrusting the memory of a once-in-a-lifetime day to a unique perspective. Every eye sees differently. Some shoot with their eyes, some with their soul — and sadly, some with neither.
That’s why knowing exactly who will be behind the camera is crucial. Never trust someone who works multiple weddings in one day. If you’ve hired a studio with several photographers, always ask who will be your photographer and insist on seeing their personal work. It’s your right. Because not all photographers see the world the same way. Some simply “cover the event,” while others feel it deeply, move through it quietly, and return images full of sensitivity and respect.
And this applies to every wedding, including Naomi and Graeme’s wedding in Apulia. Because the beauty of the setting alone is not enough. In fact, sometimes it can be a double-edged sword: it’s either used to create authentic images or to replicate the same tired formulas seen a thousand times.
I imagine you as musical instruments, and your wedding as the most memorable and unique concert of your lives. But in a concert, the instruments can’t play out of sync. There needs to be a guide—someone to keep the time. Just like in music, the rhythm of our hearts needs a metronome—something to bring order to the chaos inside and help us move in step together, leaving traces of harmony behind us.”
I know how to keep time.
You just need to bring the melody.
The rest happens naturally.
